Christopher Columbus set sail to find a route to India. He did not find what he was looking for. Instead, he found what would become the greatest nation on Earth. In the fall of 2016 Crosby ISD will set sail as well by beginning the process of putting technology in the hands of every student. Doing something new and different can be intimidating, but just like Christopher Columbus did not let the fear of not knowing what was beyond the horizon keep him from setting sail, Crosby ISD will not let the fear of not knowing how this venture will truly transform our educational system keep us from "setting sail" as well.
Teaching students to learn is only the first step in giving them the ability to discover.
If you’ve not yet heard the term Columbus Initiative, get ready! In 2014, the Crosby ISD Board of Trustees approved a resolution in support of the Crosby ISD Columbus Initiative and resolved to move our district forward into truly embracing 21st century, student-centered instruction. The two main components of the Columbus Initiative in order of priority are:
- Prioritizing instructional practices that prepare students for success in the real world
- Capitalizing on technological advancements to deliver content in a manner that maximizes active student participation in the learning process
Let me be clear. The undertaking is no small task. We are crossing rough seas, but our students are worth the voyage.
