We are constantly looking at ways to be more efficient with ways to operate the school district so that we can push more revenue into classroom needs, more teachers and higher teacher/staff pay.
I've reviewed outsourcing many departments in the past 6 years including transportation, maintenance, and grounds. My preference is to not outsource, but also believe it is my job to review the opportunities to determine if doing so could potentially benefit Crosby ISD. To this point, I have not yet seen the benefit in outsourcing services that outweighs the advantages of maintaining our own staff.
It is true that we are currently reviewing the possible benefits of outsourcing food services, as well as custodial services. At this point, I am simply gathering information so that I can base my opinion on facts rather than speculation.
Again, it is my preference to maintain an in-house staff, but I do not believe it would be appropriate to discount outsourcing without gathering information. No decision has been made and it is not scheduled to go the the board for consideration. After gathering information on both food and custodial services, if I believe there is a compelling benefit to outsource these services, I will make a recommendation to the board for their consideration. If it goes to the board for consideration, it will be clearly posted on the board meeting agenda that is published 72 hours ahead of any regular or special called board meeting. I hope this clears up any confusion.
ETA: Even if we did outsource, one stipulation would be the hiring of all current employees.
